According to the State Security archives in COMDOS, the archival file for the company “Bulgarian River Shipping” was opened at the very beginning of 1965. It is surprising that it is not among the first similar files opened in the State Security system, given its political importance. The intelligence reports abound with diverse information: reports and summaries about the events in Czechoslovakia in 1968; information on thefts, smuggling activities, and technical accidents; reports on “traitors of the motherland” tracked in emigrant cafes and bars in major Danube ports; political jokes and literary prose that happened to catch the attention of the regular and irregular collaborators of State Security.
